Reindeer sleigh rides in Saariselkä are a dream activity for many visitors. Offered by several local tour operators, rides can be booked online in advance for convenience.

A Traditional Lapland Experience

Historically, reindeer sleighs in northern Finland could be pulled by up to 30 reindeer. Today, they are one of Lapland’s most popular tourist activities. Reindeer safaris provide a full experience including a warm beverage break, guidance, outdoor gear, transportation, and, of course, the sleigh ride itself. Participants are typically picked up from a prearranged location and returned after the safari. Pick-up points are distributed throughout Saariselkä, often near hotels, restaurants, and the ski center, making participation easy even without a car.

Day and Evening Safaris

Reindeer rides are available both during daylight and in the evening. Evening rides are slightly more expensive, offering additional atmosphere and a chance to see the Northern Lights. Enjoying Saariselkä’s twilight in a warm sleigh while hearing the bells of the reindeer creates a memory to last a lifetime. Many safaris include a forest camp stop for coffee and pastries before returning. Rides usually last around 45 minutes, but duration can often be tailored to your preference.
