Winter Fatbiking Opportunities

Saariselkä offers excellent conditions for winter mountain biking. Trails are suitable for riders of all levels, and fatbikes can be rented conveniently on-site.

Fatbike Trails in Urho Kekkonen National Park

The national park features over 50 km of prepared trails for fatbike riding. The network connects three villages and offers a variety of services along the way. For example, Savottakahvila provides refreshments for cyclists, and Rönkönlampi is perfect for a cozy outdoor snack. The Piispanoja Kota route connects to other winter trails in Saariselkä. Riding on the fatbike trails is free, though you can support maintenance by paying a voluntary trail fee, which comes with a sticker to display on your bike.

Trail Conditions and Guidelines

Several winter trails are open for cycling, and new routes are continually prepared as snow arrives. Current trail conditions can be checked at saariselkanordicski.com. Some trails are shared with walkers, snowshoers, and skiers. Dogs are also allowed on certain trails. Only cyclist-specific routes are marked with blue posts. Cyclists and pedestrians should note that ski tracks are reserved exclusively for skiers.

Guided Tours and Rentals

Guided winter bike tours can be booked online. Fatbikes, with their wide tires, allow easy riding in snow. Bikes can also be rented for a set number of hours for personal use. Before heading out, check the difficulty level of the trail, as routes range from easy to challenging.
