Tobogganing

Fun for All Ages

Tobogganing is a joyful way to enjoy the outdoors in winter. If skiing or cross-country skiing isn’t your plan, sledding is a perfect alternative, especially for families with young children.

Finland’s Longest Toboggan Run

Saariselkä is home to Finland’s longest toboggan run, located at the top of Kaunispää in the ski resort. The hill is accessible via chairlift and offers a unique experience beyond a typical sledding hill. Along the way, you can admire Northern Lights-themed light installations.

For families with small children, the resort recommends avoiding the top start due to sharp curves and high speeds. After the top, two different routes are available: the right-hand route leads to Saariselkä Chapel and an easier hill suitable for young children, while the left-hand route offers a more challenging sledding path with beautiful Aurora Experience lights. Children aged 7 and above should ride with an adult.

Where to Rent Sleds

Sleds can be rented from various locations in Saariselkä, including local hotels and rental shops. Ski Saariselkä’s rental office at the base of the chairlift also offers many sleds. The main toboggan hill is maintained by the ski resort and is open only when the lifts operate. There are also smaller, unofficial sledding hills for use when the resort is closed.
