Snowmobiling in Saariselkä

Snowmobiling Opportunities

Saariselkä offers excellent opportunities for snowmobiling. You can join a guided snowmobile safari or rent a snowmobile for personal use.

Who Can Drive a Snowmobile?

Renting and driving a snowmobile is possible on designated snowmobile routes. A minimum T-class driver’s license is required, and drivers must be at least 15 years old to operate a snowmobile off-road. Helmets must be worn at all times, and protective goggles are recommended if the helmet has no visor to prevent snow from entering your eyes. Driving should always respect nature. Speed limits apply: up to 60 km/h on trails and terrain, 80 km/h on frozen water surfaces, and 40 km/h when towing a passenger sled. Always check local regulations before your trip.

Saariselkä Snowmobile Routes

Saariselkä has an extensive network of snowmobile routes. Using marked trails is recommended, as the risk of getting lost is low. You may encounter other snowmobilers on the routes, and help is readily available if needed. Always drive on the right side and follow speed limits. If you must stop along the route, do so safely on the side where other riders can see you.

Guided Snowmobile Safaris

Saariselkä also offers guided snowmobile safaris. Safety gear including snow suits, gloves, and helmets is provided. A guide leads the ride through Saariselkä’s beautiful snowy landscapes, offering tips on snowmobile handling. Safaris usually last around two hours, and each snowmobile can carry two adults.
